Well we have just uploaded some new rendering of the area will look like once the waterfront has been redeveloped and I think they are fantastic. You can clearly see how Kerry Park will not only be enlarged but how there is gonna be a nice beach and a place for "Parks Alive" can still have entertainers perform. To me, the people of kelowna have no fear about losing any parkland and the downtown businesses will only benefit and become more successful with more people coming downtown to enjoy this redeveloped area.
And I think the idea of the boardwalk being two levels is something long overdue and i hope we could do the same thing infront of the new Jim Stuart park.
What do you think about the new renderings??

compared to those images, Kelowna's current waterfront appears dead.
this project will not only bring the downtown core of kelowna to life, but will shine like a beacon to tourists and people simply passing through kelowna.
Kelowna's largest industry is tourism, and such a glorious looking waterfront is sure to bring in well more than what we currently have.
as for the parks alive thing. in many of the negative editorials i had read in the news paper, the loss of Kerry park and parks alive was their strongest argument. completely skipping over the issue of drug dealers and prostitutes.
with the new design for the waterfront, Parks alive will remain alive. thereby solving one of the naysayers problems

Welcome to the forum Matt!
Yes, you are absolutely right about your observations and comments. And it is interesting why people would think this would destroy downtown and tourism. Some people are very selfish about there community.
Hope you wrote your YES letter about Lawson Landing at our main site. We need every one!
Cheers...

May 20, 2005: Lawson Landing Revised Development Plans
As all of you probably read in the paper, the first hints of the revised plans for Lawson Landing have been released. The plan now calls for a 36, 33, 25, 22 and a 8 story tower. We are working to get more information and we will add it to the website as soon as we can get our hands on it.
But so far with what has been release in the media, what is your opinion?

I think the new plans sound great... Any indication of what the city thinks, which way they are leaning?

I really don't understand peoples hang ups about urban development.
Kelowna has a beautiful natural environment. I think modern skyscrapers would only compliment the surrounding view. More so than a one story restaurant would.
If anyone wants to complain about an eyesore. Let's talk about the Yacht club. A building so bland and unappealing that it makes me cringe everytime I walk past it. Or what about empty lots which have become the current home of many a vagrant. Just last week the sight across from Prospera was the death site of one such homeless person.
Kelowna is growing fast, and if we don't grow up, we'll be growing out. What would the public prefer. Lost agricultural and natural habitat, or a view of a lake you can only see from up on Knox, or Dillworth anyway.
I fully support The Lawson Landing project. Let's hope that it and many more proposals go through.
