Wow, we have to get more details on this new expansion. But I am not sure the parkade is still in the future plans. I hope so as it will add to the airport. Here is a silly question. Do you think Kelowna airport will expand enough to handle 747's and the new airbus A380?

Do you think Kelowna airport will expand enough to handle 747's and the new airbus A380? No way the A380 will ever come in to kelowna ever. 747-400's will be a long time before we see one of those. Look for 767's or other wide bodies like A330's..but thats still a long time in the future. Its hard to bring the bigger wide body aircrafts into kelowna because of the proximity to vancouver and Calgary and the fact that the flights wouldn't fill. Get used to the 737's, Dash 8's, A320's and the soon arrival of the 757 for a while.

well you could be right, but this year the Kelowna will be breaking 1 million passengers or at least be very close.
So who will know what will happen in the next 5-10 years. There is always a chance larger aircraft will start using Kelowna. Proximity will really have nothing to do with it, look at Calgary and Edmonton they are only 2-3 hours apart and they both handle large planes for international and national flights. Servicing the population is what matters and Kelowna is becoming a major airport for the entire southern half of the province.
Only time will tell how the airport will grow.

oh but how i wish some widebodies would come int YW!! i am a big aviation enthusiast and love going to High noon ball park to watch the A/C's take off and i tell ya it gets pretty repetative watching the same ol' machines. Atleast when KFL sets out a 727 its exciting. Lets keep promoting the city and get more air traffic here so we can see some 767's or A330's!!

Today the airport manager will give a report to Kelowna city council an economic report about the airport and the number of jobs it holds and it's economic output. It is reported that the airport generated 1,835 direct fulltime jobs and brought in 310 million dollars to the community.
They will also discuss some of the future plans which will include the expansion of the airport parking lot to 2,400 parking stalls and the POSSIBILITY of MAYBE expanding the runway at accept larger aircraft. ;D
