Ellis Street
Lawrence to Rosemead Avenues
This project involves the construction of a dual left turn bay from southbound Ellis Street to eastbound Harvey Avenue as part of the “Option 19” improvements to the east approach to the W.R. Bennett Bridge.
Construction: August through September
Contractor: to be determined
Cost: $300,000
Traffic Impacts: traffic delays expected on Ellis Street
Gordon Drive Upgrade
Dehart Road to Old Meadows Road
This year's work on Gordon Drive is a continuation of last year's upgrade south of DeHart Road and involves construction of curb, gutter, sidewalk and a centre, two-way left turn lane from DeHart Road to Old Meadows Road.
Construction: end of June to September
Contractor: to be determined
Cost: $1.9 million
Traffic impacts: potential road closure between Dehart and Old meadows
Gordon Drive is one of two major roadways traveling into the South Mission; since 1995 traffic volumes have increased significantly requiring immediate improvements. In 2005 Gordon Drive was upgraded from Dehart Road to Paret Road, and along Paret to the east end of Stonybrook Road. A new section of roadway was constructed from Stonybrook Road to Frost Road.
The opening of the new portion of Gordon Drive, through Stonybrook Road, was delayed to spring 2006 due to the incomplete sidewalks and street lighting. Crews are finishing the installation of sidewalks and street lighting.
The purpose of this project is to improve traffic flow and property access, while at the same time providing a safer connection between the upper and lower Mission through Stonybrook. Once complete, the new road will offer many functional and aesthetic improvements including:
One lane in each direction with a centre two-way left turn lane;
Sidewalks on both sides of Gordon between Dehart Road and Bellevue Creek and on the south side of the road from Bellevue Creek south;
Bicycle lanes on both sides of Gordon;
Concrete curbs and gutters plus drainage; and
Street lighting.
Once the new section of Gordon is open, the narrow, curvy Paret Road Hill will be closed to vehicular traffic. No on-street parking will be permitted on Gordon.
Guisachan Road
Gordon Drive to Nelson Road
This project involves the nstallation of curb, gutter and sidewalk on the north side of Guisachan Road and paving the road to complete Guisachan.
Construction: Fall 2006
Contractor: To be constructed by City Forces
Cost: $600,000
Traffic Impacts: limited
