Castanet this morning is reporting that; ;D Construction on the Conservatory in Glenmore is resuming after months of no activity. A new crane has gone up and construction will resume in days. (Tue 6:46 am) I am glad to see that this is starting up again. It will be a welcome addition to the area. Stay tuned for more details. This is reported in the Kelowna Daily Courier: It's finally up-up-and-away for the Conservatory
After years of downtime, a new crane is going up on the 15-acre site at Glenmore Road and Summit Drive, with construction of the Conservatory condominiums to resume within days. "After all the issues and agony, we're about to restart," said Frank Faigaux of Vintage Properties, which is behind the tropical gardenstyle condo project. "We will go ahead as originally planned for the first 91 units. There are no more roadblocks at this point." The first phase of the development is worth about $17 million. The project will include a tropical garden under an 80-foot-high glass ceiling. The entire project – which is expected to take eight years to complete – will have 1,150 units, making it the largest residential complex in Kelowna, not including the proposed Lawson’s Landing on the downtown lakeshore. Faigaux said costs have risen 42 per cent since initial construction began almost three years ago. Vintage asked those who had put down a payment to up the final price by 27 per cent to recover some of those costs. Nine people backed out and took an additional five per cent over their down payment. That leaves 44 people who are still in the first phase. New buyers can expect to pay $330-$360 a square foot. An average two-bedroom condo will cost between $350,000 and $400,000. A corner condo with lake views on the eighth floor will go for about $425,000. The original builders, Greyback Construction, were replaced by Vic Van Isle Construction of Revelstoke. The huge Greyback crane stood over the excavation for many months before being removed. Faigaux said he couldn’t estimate the value of the completed project, which would have four phases. “Construction costs are skyrocketing, so who knows where we will be in three years,” he said.

I am beginning to think that the annoucement for the start of the this project was a little premature. The crane is up but there has still been no movement with the construction. Has anyone else heard any more details on what is happening there?

LOL! Ya - one could write a whole book on the excuses they have made. Here is the latest one. Their current "workforce" is finishing of a building in Edmonton ( I think there? ) that is behind schedule and as soon as they are done there - they will start this one up again. Somehow - it just does not hold water!?!?!

Okay, here we go again It is being report that this project will start construction in three weeks. They will be paying for the development permit this week and then after 10 days of site clean up they will be ready to start pouring new concrete. Well i hope this time it will become true, i am a little tired of seeing that hole in the ground. But i did notice a second crane had shown up on the site this week. So you never know.

Guest like to repeat itself so I will too. Ladies and Gentleman, ;D What we have here is another fine comment from guest with its belief that making comments like "pavekelownaover" (which Mr Zeger coined ) will stop the progress this city is making towards it's future. It is a shame that "guest" feels this is the only way to be heard.

But will it really? This thing's been doomed from the start. It's a shame, because I really liked this development.

I'm just curious... Now that I've seen this project go up to atleast 8 floors... How high is it really going? I thought the original proposel was to have 4 towers ranging 16-24 floors. Is that still a possibility?

Not sure - first phase is 8 stories but I cannot get any info on the future phases - I would suspect that they would get as much density as possible due to the delay in the project...
