Hi I was just wondering what the purpuse of placing 1.5 stories of dirt on the site of the Madison? I dont really know much about construction so is it just another form of compacting the soil?

That's funny, my mom asked me the very same question the other day. The reason for all of the dirt is exactly that, to compact the soil. Mostly all of the flat, marshy land of Kelowna, especially downtown, has very soft soil. So they need to compact it with a lot of dirt and whatever. One of my highschool teachers said once that the Executive House building, which is that white 12 story residential building on the corner of richter and harvey, is actually a bit crooked because they didn't compact the soil well enough.
