Airport access route being revised
Dec 17 2006
Fallout from Okanagan University College divide and the creation of University of British Columbia Okanagan, has land developers and city planners reshaping the southern university area en route to the airport.
City council hears an application to rezone the lands to the south of the university on Monday such that land zoned for multifamily and commercial development sits adjacent to the university buildings for students and faculty who will live in the community as it expands. It means flipping the land designations in the current Official Community Plan.
“By taking the commercial and multi-family components at the south end of the area structure plan and putting them up at the north end adjacent to the school, it’s a better idea all around,” said Shelley Gambacort, city planner.
Should it meet council’s approval the changes would also create a commercial village just south of the university for UBCO students and staff to shop.
