From Castanet.net Thompson Report on November 25th: "It looks very positive for that property across from Prospera Place to be the hotel it was always planned for. I understand two big players are now involved and they seem ready to go with a project. Oh, this is a good one….. "Hopefully another beautiful highrise - we need lots of them

Well it sounds like it is offical. John Thompson from castanet is reporting the following as of this morning:
New Hotel For Kelowna Rumours and Things: by John Thomson
Rumour is solid and we have actually been reporting this for months but now it's about to happen. The land opposite Prospera Place that has been held as a hotel site for a number of years and now a deal has been completed.
The Starwood Hotel & Resorts, one of the world’s largest hotel and leisure companies has, I understand made for one of it’s affiliates The Westin Hotels & Resorts.
Starwood acquires, manages or has the franchising rights to a hotel portfolio that totals 229,000 rooms in 82 countries and is comprised of 140 hotels that Starwood owns or leases, 286 hotels managed on behalf of a third party and 312 hotels for which Starwood receives franchise fees.
This would be quite an addition to the hospitality industry locally. Starwood Hotels & Resorts executive offices are in White Plains, New York.
It’s two largest brands are Westin Hotel & Resorts and Sheraton Hotel & Resorts. Strong brands and brand recognition have put Starwood in a leadership position. In markets worldwide. The company have won awards recently as the “Worlds Leading Hotel Group,” The Best Global Hotel Group.” And nine of their hotels are in the top ten best hotels in the world for Conde Nast Reader’s Choice Awards list. Being somewhat of a hotel buff.. this IS exciting! I'll have to dig out my SPG Card Out www.spg.com. It would be great to see a nice Westin or Sheraton hotel there. - Brad

Noticed an article in the business journal by John Thompson... He wrote that the developer who was planning on building a 350 room Sheraton hotel has pulled out of that development at the last minute... I'm a little dissapointed.

Actually that was the original proposal a few years back. That fell through. There is another proposal in the works though it is still in the discussion and speculation phase.
